Paiute Passion edition by Jeanie P Johnson Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I was disappointed in this book. It did not keep my interest up. I read a few chapters. Kattie. 1/39/18.
I liked this book. I enjoyed going into the past with the characters the author created. She really brought the story to life.
As a writer of Native American fiction Madelyn never dreamed that she would walk among them. A locket she received from her mother had a chip from her time period. There were pictures of Paiute Indians from a century ago. The writer in her could not pass up the opportunity to further investigate. Her childhood friend who was in love with her and also her roommate, tried to talk her out of visiting the Paiute reservation in another state but with little success. There she met Tate who looked like one of the Indians on the chip. She was introduced to Tate's grandfather Ta'nuk. Madelyn was shown other photos when she explained the purpose of her visit. She learned that Tate's look a like was his great great grandfather, Nyol. It was said that he died in a cave nearby and even left his bloody hand print on the wall. The Paiutes use this cave to seek vision and invite Madelyn
to visit. Her curiosity about the hand print and a dare from Tate propelled Madelyn to rise to the challenge, especially since it was said that the full moon could make strange things happen. Sure enough, Madelyn put her hand over that hand print. She went back in time and met Nyol. He was fascinated by her and promise to never leave her side, even though he was promised to another. That caused a lot of friction but did not stopped Nyol who also believed Madelyn was a spirit. The Paiute chief performed the marriage ceremony for Nyol and Madelyn who still had reservations about Nyol's betrothed. Nyol promised to make that young girl his second a wife as soon as she became a woman which I suspect has to do with menstruation. In the meantime, Madelyn discovered that the Paiutes planned to attack all whites who crossed their land. She even met up with a wagon train and discovered her own great grandmother among them. She too had a locket which Madelyn opened to reveal a ring from her long last love. Madelyn tried to convince Nyol that she knew all the bad things that he and the rest of the Indians would endure if they continue to attack white settlers. After all, she came from the future. Nyol and the others secretly went to attack
the settlers so, Madelyn went back to the cave on Paiute's land because it was almost full moon and the expectation that Nyol would die. He did return to the with injuries and soon died. It occurred to Madelyn that the bloody hand print was not Nyol's but hers when she touched the cave wall and was transported back into the future. Tate had been keeping vigil in the cave even though Madelyn's roommate, Brent accused Tate of having a hand in Madelyn's disappearance.
Now that Madelyn was back she was deeply moved by Nyol's death and came to the conclusion that she had taken the pictures in the past and brought them to the future. She also came back to the present pregnant with Nyol's baby. His great great grandson, Tate is now courting Madelyn and promised to take care of her and the baby!
